Gardening for Our NM Community

Spring is here and everyone is thrilled to see the fruit blossoms, hyacinths and daffodils. And the overnight freezes are almost at an end (we hope). What this means to NM's Faith in Action, is that now is the time to plant and plan.

Faith in Action is planting a Community Garden at our new property on Old Belfair Highway (watch for the sign just past the firehall). We are actively seeking more volunteers to form gardening "teams" to plant, tend and harvest vegetables (and maybe fruits) to give away to area low-income residents.

At this time, we have two teams, but would like to form one more. Our plans are to experiment with three garden methods: traditional, organic, and lasagna.

The water meter to allow us to have the garden's has been generously lent to us by the Belfair Water District. Products and fertilizers for the organic garden are being donated by Harry Rakefeldt and AGGrand. Garden beds are being built by Marco Brown, using recycled wood furniture donated broken to Faith in Action. We are still looking for donations of garden soil/compost/garden materials, etc.
